Every garden is unique, so we offer flexible design paths to match your lifestyle and goals. Whether you want a roadmap for DIY installation or full support from vision to completion, you'll find a process rooted in clarity, creativity, and collaboration.
We take on a small number of full design projects each year, by design — it means multiple site visits instead of one, hands-on collaboration with you at every stage, and the option to have us stay involved all the way through installation.
OUR PROCESS

Every project begins with a conversation. In this 15-minute call, we'll discuss your goals, priorities, and how you envision using your space. We'll walk you through our design process, show sample deliverables, answer questions, and help determine whether we're a good fit and which level of design support makes the most sense. We begin with a detailed walk-through and conversation about how your household uses the space. We study sun and shade patterns, soil conditions, drainage, microclimates, and existing features, and take detailed measurements. You'll receive a written site study summary capturing key observations, opportunities, and constraints. This step establishes a clear foundation for all design decisions moving forward.
Please note: if you're outside the Houston area, we still require an in-person site visit. We feel strongly that good design has to be rooted in the place where it exists, so this is a prerequisite, not an optional add-on. -
The concept map explores the overall structure of the garden. We'll create layout options that show how zones connect, where paths lead, and how the space functions day to day. This phase may include early 3D views to help visualize scale and relationships. We'll also schedule a dedicated review meeting to discuss the concept, gather feedback, and refine the direction before moving into detailed design.

The final design package brings everything together into a clear, buildable plan:
A curated plant palette tailored to your site, style, and maintenance preferences
A scaled planting plan showing placement and quantities
3D renderings to help you fully visualize the space
MP4 walkthroughs that guide you through the design
Phased implementation guidance so the garden can be built over time

Optional — this is a phase we truly love to be part of, because it's where the design comes to life. We offer design oversight and coordination support—plant sourcing, collaboration with trusted local contractors, and on-site guidance to ensure the design is executed as intended. Installation labor and materials are handled separately, so you choose the level of involvement that fits your project.

For established beds that need a new vision, we offer Planting Design — a focused planting palette and plan for spaces that already have good bones.

Yes! We are a design-only studio, and many of our clients choose to DIY their installations. If you're looking for something lighter than a full design, visit the consultations page.

Pricing depends on the number of zones, the size of your space, the level of problem-solving needed, and your budget. Design fees generally fall around 10–20% of total project cost, and most projects run $15,000 or more in total implementation — we specialize in phasing, so the garden can be built over time rather than all at once. We'll walk through a clear estimate on your discovery call.

No — we focus exclusively on the design process. We collaborate with and refer to trusted local landscape contractors in the Houston area to bring your design to life through our project management services.

While we specialize in Houston gardens, we do travel for projects and require at least one in-person site visit to properly design your space.
