SUNNYVALE, TEXAS

A Blackland Prairie Garden

A new-construction home on three-quarters of an acre in Sunnyvale, on the Northern Blackland Prairie, with open bermuda lawn, long fence lines, and no canopy. The planting is green first: an evergreen backbone of dwarf yaupon holly, dwarf wax myrtle, and rosemary holds the garden year-round. Color comes from natives and climate-adapted plants - Turk's cap, Mexican bush sage, Texas rock rose, red yucca, and pink muhly - massed in long drifts along the fence lines so each reads as a deliberate wave.
