Entry & Patio Garden — Montrose

This Montrose garden redesign brings clarity, softness, and structure to a set of spaces that had plenty of potential but little cohesion. The project reimagines the front entry, the shaded side corridor, and the back patio as connected garden “rooms,” each designed to feel intentional and welcoming from every angle. Existing elements—like the established rose, crape myrtles, and Buddhist pine—are preserved and elevated, while outdated plantings and visual clutter are replaced with a calm, evergreen framework.

At the entry, a sculpted dwarf yaupon holly parterre creates a timeless structure that frames the front steps. A Mexican plum adds a four-season focal point, and the existing climbing rose is trained into a cleaner, espalier-style form to complement the architecture. Beneath this structure, heat-tolerant natives and long-blooming perennials bring movement and pollinator value to an area that receives strong afternoon sun.

Moving through the garden gate, the experience shifts into a woodland-inspired side corridor. Ferns, coral bells, dwarf palmetto, and oakleaf hydrangea create layered shade planting beneath the crepe myrtle canopy. A small water feature introduces sound and visual calm, while a trellis marks the passage between garden “rooms.”

At the back of the home, the patio becomes a compact but richly planted outdoor living space. Terracotta and neutral containers shape a dining nook and lounge zone, while a freestanding vertical structure supports a productive kitchen garden of herbs, citrus, and edible vines. Updated screening softens utilities without sacrificing access, creating a tidy, serene backdrop for daily life.

The result is a garden that blends formality with softness—classic structure at the entry, a quiet woodland transition, and a vibrant yet orderly patio garden—tied together by a palette of deep greens, ruby reds, woodland chartreuse, and warm terracotta accents. A refined, livable landscape in the heart of Montrose.
