    1. Book a Discovery Call

Every project begins with a conversation. In this free 15-minute call, we’ll explore your goals, priorities, and dream space. You’ll share how you imagine using your yard, and I’ll walk you through my process so you know what to expect. The Discovery Call helps us decide together if we’re a good fit and which design path will serve you best.

  • Megan Farrar - Sustainable Garden Design

    2. Site Analysis

We begin with a walk-through and conversation about how your family uses the space. I’ll study sun and shade patterns, soil conditions, water flow, and microclimates, and take detailed measurements. Afterward, you’ll receive a written report that captures my findings and recommendations. This step provides the foundation for a design that truly fits your site.

  • Concept map of sustainable garden design

    3. Concept Map

I’ll create layout options that show how your zones connect, where paths lead, and how the garden functions day to day. This collaborative step helps you explore ideas and choose the direction that feels right for your lifestyle.

  • Curated native plant palette

    4. Plant Palette

I’ll curate a plant list tailored to your site, your style, and your maintenance preferences. Each palette balances beauty, function, and resilience, ensuring your garden thrives in Houston’s climate while reflecting your vision.

  • 3d rendering of food kitchen garden

    5. Final Design Delivery

    The final design package combines:

    - Scaled Planting Plan → A detailed, to-scale drawing showing exact plant placement, spacing, and quantities.

    - 3D Visualizations → Realistic renderings so you can see and feel the space before planting.

    - Installation Plan → Clear instructions so the design can be installed with confidence, whether by you, a contractor, or with my support.

  • 6. Installation Support

Plant Sourcing → I handle the research and logistics of finding the right plants for your design, often sourcing from multiple nurseries to secure the best quality and availability.

Installation Management → I’ll be on-site during installation to guide contractors or crews, ensuring everything is placed according to the design.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! I’m a design-only studio, and many of my clients choose to DIY their gardens and installations. My role is to create a clear, tailored plan that guides you with confidence. If you’re looking for something lighter - like advice or brainstorming rather than a full design - please visit my consultations page.

  • Pricing depends on the number of zones (outdoor rooms), the size of your space, the level of problem-solving needed, and your budget. As a general guide, design fees often fall around 10–20% of the total project cost. We’ll discuss a clear estimate during your free discovery call.

  • Yes! While I specialize in Houston gardens, I do travel for projects and require at least one in-person site visit to properly design your space. I love learning about new climates and ecoregions, and discovering the native plants that make each place unique.

  • No—I focus exclusively on the design process. However, I collaborate with and refer to trusted local landscape contractors in the Houston area to bring your design to life.
