Front Garden — Katy
This front garden redesign transforms an east-facing foundation bed into a soft, Mediterranean-inspired landscape that feels polished, inviting, and rich with seasonal color. The existing Chinese hollies and crepe myrtles offered a strong evergreen backdrop, and the design builds on that structure by weaving in pollinator-friendly perennials, textural groundcovers, and subtle focal elements that bring life and movement to the morning sun.
A framework of evergreen shrubs — including the existing hollies and new accents like lavender and artemisia — grounds the composition and provides year-round structure. Their silvery and deep green tones set the stage for a planting palette that blends cottage softness with native Texas resilience.
Within this evergreen frame, flowering perennials supply continuous color and ecological function. Tropical sage, mealy blue sage, blackfoot daisy, rock rose, and moss phlox create a long bloom sequence, shifting from early spring pastels into summer warmth and fall texture. These plants thrive in the garden’s bright morning light and afternoon shade, offering a low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly mix of nectar, pollen, and seasonal rhythm.
New focal elements give the space a timeless, cohesive feel. A birdbath near the entry acts as a sculptural centerpiece and a water source for pollinators, while Southern wood fern and silver ponyfoot soften edges and add a cooling tone against the warm brick façade. Carefully placed limestone boulders reinforce the Mediterranean influence and introduce subtle microclimates for complementary species.
The result is a garden that balances structure with softness — evergreen form paired with airy, seasonal bloom — creating a welcoming, low-maintenance landscape that matures beautifully and supports pollinators throughout the year.
